So frustrated....Moates tuner pro rt

Okay, so I called Moates, bought and Ostrich 2.0, ALDL Extreme, Burner 2, all kinds of stuff. Have TunerPro, I've been reading my A$$ off, for a week and I feel like I've accomplished nothing. I call Moates for a little guidance, I can't seem to get a damned thing to work properly. "Everything is on our support page" well the support page sucks. Any encouragement or advice is appreciated.

If you want a specific answer you need to ask a specific question.

Re: So frustrated....Moates tuner pro rt

Okay, point taken. Just been frustrated. I installed a chip in my Burner 2, and copied the BIN. My question is now that I've copied it, how do I view it and make changes to it with Turner Pro 5?

Since this last post I now have my ALDL reading for data logging...This is a set in the right direction, however, that said I'm not sure how to data log, or how to interpret this information.

My GTA has a single wire o2 sensor. If I change to a wide band sensor and a fuel ratio gauge, will my ECU read the signal from the wide band o2, or do I need to run a single wire o2 sensor to the ECM and have the wide band and gauge separate?

You open the bin in Tuner Pro by clicking file>open bin, then browse to where you saved the file.

Datalogging happens when you're viewing the information, when you click stop, you should be prompted to save the file. Interpreting the information comes with experience. Reading as much as you can about specific parameters can help to understand what each thing means.

The WBO2 usually has a NB simulated output that can be fed to the ECM.

Re: So frustrated....Moates tuner pro rt

sounds like your problem isn't with moates, but with the understanding of how tuner pro works with the ostrich, or tuning in general

moates website is very comprehensive on each product they offer, i have always purchased through moates and printed directions right from their how to articles without issue

as Six_shooter said, once you read and save a file with your burn II, you will open that file in tuner pro and load the correct XDF file with it or the numbers given will be gibberish, make your changes, if using the ostrich upload them on the fly to see real time emulation of your bin

once you get your car running how you like and are not in need of the ostrich's ability's you can burn a chip using your edited bin and set the ostrich aside until you modify the car or just get antsy to continue tuning

Re: So frustrated....Moates tuner pro rt

my bigger question is, instead of buying all those tools separate, why not just buy the "APU1"? it does everything in one package and probably slightly better price

You can datalog with TTS Datamaster too. It's much easier to get up and running than Tunerpro. If you want to make changes to the bin you already saved. Copy it to desktop or some other location, hit open bin, search for it, and make sure you have the proper .xdf file loaded too so you CAN make the changes. I believe your 88' uses the $32B xdf file.

Re: So frustrated....Moates tuner pro rt

I was just a few weeks ago tearing my hair out.
I still have yet to get my ALDL cable to bring info into my laptop to datalog, but I have been able to see the chip info for the 2 or 3 bins I have and have found.
The links below are on a different site that helped me understand better, hope this helps you too:

you have to find a .bin file to download first, save it to the tunerpro folder

but I would read this first:

Caveman:

I was advised by Moates when I spoke with them that the APU1 didn't work well with my years ECU, he said that it was real hit or miss. In doing my research I thought the APU1 was the way to go as well.

Re: So frustrated....Moates tuner pro rt

Frankly I acknowledge I have very little understanding of what I'm doing. Fuel injection and ECU's OBD1 are all very foreign to me. I'm an old school gearhead, I typically play with first gen firebirds, early GTO's and C2-C3 vettes. Classic pontiac iron has been my passion. I realize my combination has significantly more potential and the only way to unlock that potential is to learn how to tune. I'm certain I have at least another second off my ET...knowing this makes me CRAZY When you start from zero, the learning curve is extraordinary. I've downloaded the XDF file, converted the ADS into an ADX or is it the other way around? Either way I've accomplished that much.

I've used the burner, downloaded and saved the BIN from a chip I had burned by a "tuner" it's crap. But despite the instructions, I still can't read the SOB. I'm certain it's jut because I'm ignorant....But really from a Neophyte's perspective, it is overwhelming.

My frustration with Moates is I can only get some help M, W and F...and when I call, I basically am told it's all on their support page.... I find myself reading the same thing over again and it still doesn't direct me with my issues. I realize they are not a call center to walk me through this stuff, and I take responsibility for educating myself, but my experience here has not been positive. I think they can support their products better for the uninitiated. Something very basic, like a diagram of plug this into this, and that into that like this on paper would be huge. As opposed to searching for hours trying to find out how or what goes where. Oh it's there, I've found most of it now, but it certainly wasn't easy. I believe they cater to much more experienced clientele.

Re: So frustrated....Moates tuner pro rt

this is actually surprising to me, when i first bought my tuning equipment, most was second hand and the only moates product i had was a second hand USB aldl cable which i contacted Moates about, the only reason i knew it was moates product was the circuit board inside the little radio shack project box is labeled so, he was very quick to respond to any question i had about his product, since i have bought every tuning item from moates except chips as you can find good deals on fleabay for the ones i use

as far as the learning curve you are absolutely correct, it takes months to fully comprehend what all is happening with your ECM and Prom, like i said im still lost on a lot of things because i have no hands on yet, but this site in itself has a wealth of information and a few members that will bend over backwards to help, sometimes you have to PM members directly as all of them will not catch your thread, Rbob has been a huge help to myself on just getting my stock bin onto a chip when i first started

list specific questions you have here and im sure the Seasoned tuners will be more than willing to help

I'll let you have your thread back now unless i have something of worth to add

I'm TOTALLY with you on that ^^^

the bin you 'saved' -- did you look at it in the 'edit buffer' of flash and burn ?

I had this problem too, and found that when I select a specific chip to read, it only sets the chip addressing, not the buffer. So when I saved the file, it saved the part of the chip that had no programming on it.
I had to set the buffer correctly to capture the right info from the chip.

What chip are you reading and what are you using to read it?

Re: So frustrated....Moates tuner pro rt

Sometimes certain Tuner companies will scramble the bin or make it unreadable. You should contact the person that burned it for you .
