Upgrade to modern MAF?
I was looking at modern MAF cars. Instead of Wire Based MAF like ours. Using a heated wire as air passes and cools the wire it is correlated into velocity pressure VS voltage to get the CFM
The new camaro use MEMS sensors. Look like MAP sensors but calculate CFM using same principle as wire sensor.
Why cant we just wire in one of these to the existing harness (assuming it is voltage output) and bring the 0-5v signal on the dark green wire and just program the MAF tables that reflects the proper CFM vs load?
Are there any other or similar MAF we can upgrade in our cars that are more reliable or more modern or just better or cheaper? The new camaro MAF sensor is only $60 and readily available.
I heard a old ford MAF works?

Re: Upgrade to modern MAF?
I guess first question. Is it worth the effort I am a stock 88 auto lb9 but I suspect my MAF is bad. It only reads like 2500g/sec at idle. Not sure if bad maf or something else. I replaced relays

In your case, no
As for the bin, I'm not giving away someone elses hard work.

Re: Upgrade to modern MAF?
Well Yes no meaning no performance benefit, but I am thinking relaibility and cost (other then inital install) and when I need to rebuild my 305 and swap in a HSR or FIRST 35% I already have a MAF that is ready for the extra HP
Re: Upgrade to modern MAF?
The primary benefit of conversion to a more modern sensor is increased sensing range. This opens the door for tuning at elevated horsepower levels.
There are many secondary benefits such as increased reliability, low replacement cost, mounting and packaging flexibility, and nearly unlimited upgrade potential with high flow meters and/or larger housings.
If your current sensor needs replacement anyway, it would be a good time to upgrade. You can use an inexpensive stock range meter and tune it like a stock replacement for now.
If you eventually need more range to support future mods, simply upgrade to a high flow meter or larger housing and retune for the new combination when the time comes.

Re: Upgrade to modern MAF?
Thanks for all the info. The tequilaboy mod looks the most interesting. Since basically stock, maybe exhaust, RR, headers and home intake port for now a aftermarket HPX seems like overkill.
I like the simple install allowing a filter install right at the TPI TB for looks.
I like the low cost. But which is a good OEM unit to buy that has analog 0-5V output so I can utilize the stock harness and just play with the MAF tables? year makes? any link that has this info?

Re: Upgrade to modern MAF?
You might want to use a longer section than just a short maf and a filter, the turbulent filtered air will upset the sensor. a longer straight section really improves sensor signal.
