Tablet based tuning
In one of my recent job assignments, I was compelled to use a Surface tablet.
I hated it and W8. However, given that it can run MS software, I have been thinking about installing TPRT and my EASE datalogging software on it. Possibly even my ZT-2 logging software also. It would need 2 USB ports to handle that, but the boot up and battery life in addition to its very light weight make it something I'd like to try. Has anyone else thought of using this platform for tuning? If you have used it, what did you find? I currently use an Acer netbook.
Seems like it would be a more straightforward solution than waiting for an iOS or Android based app.

Re: Tablet based tuning
I have a convertible laptop (touch flip-screen kind), that I've been working on getting set up to use for tuning my car. I currently have open source ECU tuning software written for an aftermarket ECU I run that I've been slowly porting over to work with an Ostrich and APU1. It already has touchscreen capabilities (via Qt project's QML libraries), I just need to fix it up to be able to make table adjustments on the fly with nice big buttons and the like. I thing the big thing is, that you really need an interface that is built from the ground up to be touch friendly, which was my aim.

I too have thought it would a very convenient way of in-car tuning. I recently purchased a new laptop and I got an ASUS with an 11" touch screen. It nice to have a smaller computer combined with the touch screen. And as Malcom talked about, a touch screen friendly program would be ideal. I know all of the big EFI companies such as FAST and Holley have tablet based programs, but I do not think it gives you the same capabilities as you would have if you used a laptop.

Re: Tablet based tuning
speaking of datalogging. I am just using my dell or mac to DL with TPRT. Now that I am getting close to my chip tune I really want to put away the ECM into the dash and get rid of the APU1 ribbin or laptop.
are there any ways with table or just simple usb stick/device (pi?) that plugs into the obd1 port to just log. I can look at the data offline on tp in laptop?
Wondering even can you mount the APU1 plugged into the obd1 of course, then plug some device into the usb port of the obd1 to give it power and 2 record data? or have a APU2 that does it with some memory.
