Tuning spark
Tuning spark
Hi all,
I've been lurking here for quite some time, this forum has been my main resource for tuning and I'm really glad I found it.
I've nailed down my VE tables pretty good and wanted to move on to spark timing. When looking over the spark tables and flags ($0D) I see that the knock sensor is disabled at lower RPM (Minimum RPM for knock retard, set to 1400 in my bin)
What's the reason for this? Most of my driving is under 1400 RPM so I'm not sure how to proceed. I'm getting some knock at high loads above 1400 RPM if the engine is 100% warmed up. I'm assuming there's knock below 1400 RPM as well.
Can I turn down the minimum RPM for the knock sensor to work to say 1000 RPM or is that just asking for a headache?

Re: Tuning spark
You can set the minimum RPM for retard lower. Check to see if there is also a MPH threshold. Usually (!), GM sets up the code so that once either the MPH or RPM threshold is crossed knock will cause retard.
