Just want to make sure I'm on the right track here
Okay, so I'm leaning toward the T5 swap from a 700R4. The hold up for me was this whole PROM thing, but having that stop me wouldn't be very Gearheadish. I read the FAQ sticky to get a baseline of what to expect. I have a 1987 GTA, 5.7L. It's auto. It also has a Jet Stage 2 chip. It's my understanding that my particular ECM has this MEMCAL setup, which would require either some soldering or this piggyback type method regarding the Chip. So since I won't be able to use my Jet on the T5, as it's originally for an auto, I can now use that Jet setup as the adapter/piggyback setup for my own PROM update? I hope I didn't confuse anyone.

You most likely can use the hyper adapter when you start doing your own PROMs. If you can post a picture of it, it would be easier for us to say ya or nay.
If it is such that the adapter plugs into the MEMCAL socket, with the MEMCAL plugged into the header on the side of the adapter, with a socket for the chip, that is the one to use.

Hi, thanks for the reply. This is the setup I have. Stock photos from the internet as my computer is still installed, but this is as I remember it

That's the one, the chip is the socket is the one you will be swapping in & out to tune.
Get a Moates Burn1 and 'SF512 chip package, along with an ALDL cable and you can start tuning.

I've never really thought about this before, but since I'm doing the auto to T5 swap, I imagine I might as well set the PROM up for all the mods to the engine as well. Until now I've just had that generic Jet chip. I've never done this before. When it's all dialed in, do you actually notice a big difference in the performance?
