A rather strange project I need help with...
This isn't exactly 3rd gen related, but I figured this would be a far better place to ask than an s10 board. I decided I'm going to put a turbo on my '03 2200 S10, but it's pretty much impossible to tune the existing computer. Soooo the plan is to use a tiny saab turbo, a 1.5 bar map sensor and 28lb/hr injectors (~1.5 bigger than stock) to get enough fuel for 6psi, a flex-fuel fuel filter that will bring the fuel pressure up to 55psi, and after a lot of research and comparing parts it looks like I can retard timing 6* across the board by using a '96 crank that has a different reluctor. This is a returnless fuel system so I'm wondering if I should add a manifold reference fuel pressure regulator, or if it will even matter. Am I crazy for trying this?

As long as it can run my trans sure. Obd1 or 2?
Re: A rather strange project I need help with...
I was just trying to see what you had in mind. if you're trying to run the stock ecm, is there turning software for it? like hp tuners or something. or is the 1.5bar used to trick the ecm without any tuning?
obd1 or 2 would be up to you researching what's out there, I don't know much about obd2 except you will most likely buy 1000$ software to tune it. but the ls1 computer seems good.
obd1 there's a full sized truck ecm and software that can be used to controlthe e tranny and port injection. not sso sure if it has a boost hack thou.
I'm pretty behind the times really. about 5 years since I've looked at anything car wise, work got in the way. but I miss it.

I was downloading bins and xdf's for the '427 computers a while ago, and I think I noticed a boost xdf somewhere. If nobody finds it first I'll look tonight when I get a chance.
If it were me I'd for sure switch to regular return type fuel system for something with boost.

Yeah the 1.5 map & injectors are to trick it into doing what i want, but the more I look into the way this ecm works the less sure I am it's going to run well. I'm still trying to determine if the crank offset is in the ecm or ignition module. The flex fuel filter is $60 so I'm going to convert the regulator. Is there an underhood ecm that would work, like a '727? If I could run '427 code on that I think I'd be set, but I haven't looked into this in awhile.
Re: A rather strange project I need help with...
being a 2003 ecm. if it's like the Camaro stuff. the ecm handles what the ign module used too(sorta, the coils still have some circuts). what kinda crank sensor tooth count does it have? you might have to go old school and make a 5 tooth wheel for a older icm. unless you can drop a distributor in it.
do they still make those inline fuel control boxes the import guys used to run?

Re: A rather strange project I need help with...
It's a 5 notch reluctor so that's not an issue. I want to see if I can get it to run decent with this ecm first, then swapping if not. I'm curious how it's going to run with a manifold referenced regulator though, with the ecm's native compensation strategy I hope it isn't going to cut the PW too much at low load. Just don't want it returning a long term lean code.
Re: A rather strange project I need help with...
kinda sounds like it's just asking for some coil packs and a 427 ecm swap. I've searched myself a few mins and didn't see something under the hood thou.

Yeah it looks pretty good overall. If it runs poorly with these injectors & map I'll swap it.

Update for this, I'm going to swap ecm's at some point, but this ecm seems to be pretty flexible. I'm still using the original map with 30# injectors and so far no problems. Damn this motor is a turd, even with a turbo.
