PROM interchange

Hello all, have been lurking on this board for quite some time now and must say wow, lots of info here. The one thing I haven't come across yet is an alternative for the 2732 PROM. Is there such a thing? Running a '7747 and want to get away from the 2732 if possible, maybe a custom adapter??

TIA,
Davethe

I am not aware of a "plug n play" alternative to the 2732. You may wish to consider what Bruce is doing on his GN. I am not up on the '148s(?) that his GN uses. But he has a similar problem where he is using a smaller chip (either the 2732 or something similar to the 2732).

Bruce has been "digging" into the Source Code and also disassembling the ROM (hardware) inside the ECM. His goal (if he hasn't done this already) is to take the software off the ROM and "merge it" with the code on the eprom and then rework his ECM to use the 27C128 instead of the 2732.

And once he can use the 27C128, then he can use the AT29C256 Flash Prom.

So, it might be possible to do a similar thing for the 7747, but it requires a few of you 7747 guys to "work together" on the Source Code and do a similar project. I am also working with Source Code but for my SD 7730, so I have my own "dance card filled". But I'm more than willing to work with people to get into Assembly Language Programming, but due to the intense amount of time it takes, few are willing to undertake it. And, unfortunately, having "one guy work on this part and another guy work on another part" is often difficult to co-ordinate and, if you REALLY want to learn whats happening inside, you basically have to do the whole thing yourself.

But, I think that if people were willing to get into Assembly Language Programming, we could help teach each other what the instrucations actually do. But for the source code, I think it still needs to be done by each person individually.
