Wanted to share with you guys what I did to be able to swap PROMS without leaving the ECM hanging from under the dash.
Very simple. Just a few cuts to the ECM chassis with a hacksaw, a Moates G1 (I had a JET one which is the same), a Moates Extender cable and a Moates Chip Extender.
Now I can mount the ECM back in its original location and just have the extender board out. If I want to take the extra mile, I can also remove the DIN chip carried and solder a ZIF socket but anyway I dont fiddle around that much with tunes once I got the right one. You best wrap that in tin foil. The chips signals are very low voltage and are susceptible to EMI/RFI. I have had problems with the AutoPROM and ribbon cable interference.
That Chip Extender has virtually zero issues with EMI, except around very, very strong signals. Those chips on a PCB are signal amplifiers, which combat any interference.
@sixshooter. That is actually my reasoning for using that board instead of a simple chip carrier. Anyways if I see strange behavior I will put some grounded aluminum foil. Thanks
Re parts you will need 1x CHIPEXT ( the board) and 1x EMUC2818 (the cable)

That's good to know! I definitely had problems with the AutoProm ribbon cable that were solved with the tin-foil. I guess it doesn't have as much signal amplification?
Well to be honest I still followed General Disorder advise and covered it in tin foil + pinched part of it to the ECM body making sure there is continuity to ground.
