Which AT29256C PROM? (Scroll To Bottom)

Well guys my bro needs some help. when he was down here in texas we fixed up his 89 Iroc. well i figured out thta the ecm/prom was giving us hell(high *** Idle and fan probs). We went here local to a place called fuel injection specialties. While he was down we purchased another 89' GM PROM (the right one) and put it in and it didn't want to start. we were thinking what the hell is wrong? We thought then must be the vats is enabled? While they read the Original PROM it they said it had corrupt data. Well then we went ahead and asked them how much to disable the vats. they said a $150 yeah right just to disable a flag. well the thing is he is in the military and is now in kansas. i'm down here in texas. i still haven't gotten my buring epuiment yet so i can't do it for him(i really want do all the burning myself). So here goes... does any knows of a place where he can get the vats disabled up in kansas. So he can get his car running right. He's up in Ft. Riley close to Manhattan, Kansas. thanks guys for taking the time to read and for any help/recommendations. please help!!!

The change is simple enough, so you are right $150 is a rip-off. However, if you were to call most of the "custom eprom writers" like Ed Wright or Performance Resources, you'd probably find $150 is their "basic" eprom with only a few changes (like the VATS disabled).

There is probably only a dozen or two of us that are actually burning eproms on this board, so the likelihood of finding someone in Kansas that can burn an eprom is low. Why not just buy the Pocket Programmer? Then you can tune even more.

Given your collection of F-bodies, I think you could put the eprom burning equipment to good use.

FLASH PROM TYPE?

Thanks For the reply Glenn. That's what i thought $150 for just that. anyways looks like Your Are Right. I am going to have to get my burning equipment sooner than anticipated. Well i have another question while i'm at it about Flash Prom AT29C256. They are diffrent types of them. on digikey it says under package/case.......... 28-DIP, 28-DSOP, 28-PLCC. which one should i order? thanks guys.
