Jet chip read help

After much research on here I can't seem to find a definitive answer so maybe some of the experts can assist. I bought this 87 Iroc LB9 a year ago and found it had a few easter eggs such as LS style EV1 fuel injectors and Jet chip part# 18703 to name a few. The factory prom has a ABUN 8517 sticker on it. I was able to extract the bin from it using the BURN2 and Flash n Burn software and view it in Tunerpro using $6E xdf. The problem I'm running into is trying to extract the bin from the Jet chip using the BURN2. I've gone through all of possible ones on the Flash N Burn list and some give me errors and others it reads but when i save to file and open in Tunerpro there's no data. Sparks tables and MAF tables all zero'd out. I'm not sure what type of chip this is to select on the list in the Flash n Burn. It says D27128A on the chip but I'm not sure what Buffer and Chip addressing to use. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Re: Jet chip read help

The stock chips usually start at 0x4000

Read the chip into the buffer and use the hex editor to see where real information starts at.

I'm not fluent with the hex editor but I did go in there out of curiosity and scrolled and noticed that at 01000 I saw a bunch of 78s in there for probably 20 rows down. I changed addresses and also noticed that the file size changed as well. I'm using the hdr1 to read off of the jet adapter. Does the stock memcal have to be plugged in for this to read right in tunerpro?

Re: Jet chip read help

I don't understand your question. The HDR1 is for plugging in the Memcal into the chip socket on the reader.....

Look at the 0x4000 area in the hex. The stock memcal I read a few days ago started there. You're just looking for something that looks like data. Obviously all 0's or all 1's isn't data....

I used the HDR1 to plug into the Jet adapter which looks exactly like the G1 Moates adapter and placed it on the BURN2. The stock memcal plugs into the Jet adapter the same way as the G1. When i read the Jet chip i didnt have the stock memcal(blue plastic) plugged into the jet adapter. Im not sure if the blue memcal had to be plugged in the adapter which i dont think it matters, I do see data in the hex editor but no data is showing in the tunerpro tables. Hex editor scares me

Re: Jet chip read help

You aren't changing anything in the editor. Just viewing and looking for the start address to tell the reader where to begin pulling data so it coincides with the start of the bin file it's going to save.

This is part of tuning. You're re-writing the software of the ECM and that is a very basic form of software engineering. Hex is actually quite simple with every digit representing 4 digits in binary. It's relatively important that you not be "scared" of any of this. At the end of the day you can't damage anything with the changes you make to the chip. At the worst the vehicle won't start and you have to go back to the old JET module (which are crap BTW with little in the way of worthwhile tuning done to them).

Re: Jet chip read help

You might take the chip out of the piggyback adapter. Or watch the header. It might be set back a set of holes to match up with the prom on the board. Watch offsets and try reading as a 27c128 .

Yeah I know these Jet chips are just snake oil. I just wanted to pop it in the difference tool in tunerpro and compare it to the stock bin and see what someone wasted $150 on. Thanks for the hex info. It's a little clearer to me now

Good point, I'll check that as well
