Ok......I'm kinda new here.....
Hey,
I'm kinda new here and read a couple of post on this board....so let me see if I have this correct. DIY PROM is the computer system in your car......and w/ a comp you can hack in and increase performace???? Like a mod chip or something?? So if you had another cars profile.....you could run it into your car and increase performance?? thanks

DIY Prom is "Do-It-Yourself Prom Burning"
Our car's computers chips can be replaced by identical chips w/ different programs.
For the process of burning proms, refer to traxion's tech article under the announcement at the top of this board.
The laptop comes into play w/ the diagnostic software that helps you figure out WHAT to change in the prom. Through the computer port (ALDL) near your right knee (for firebirds at least) and a connecting cable, your laptop can retrieve that info from your ecm.
Each car is different, so the only "real" way to maximize your power is when you "DIY" and get your own prom equipment, then you can fine tune for performance. Its pretty much consensus among the do-it-yourselfers here that the chips you buy retail are junk.
Hope that helps.
I just tried to provide a quick summary. If anyone has a correction or addition feel free
