Couple MAF Questions
Couple MAF Questions
I'm in the market for a new MAF and some of the threads I've found regarding replacement are fairly dated. I'm running a transplanted TPI system and as such, I don't have a stock air box. I ran the Bosch hot wire type MAF for years with nothing more than a cone K&N filter attached to the end. I'm guessing I got away with the hot wire MAF and the K&N filter because the burn off would effectively clean the sensor wire of any K&N oil residue. MAF died, so I bought a cheap one off Amazon. It ran ok for about 100 miles and now I have an issue with lean idle and stalling. Upon further inspection the thermistor / resistors in the new sensor appear to have an oil film on them which is surely impacting the idle reading. The burn off circuit appears to be there for the sake of the ECU being happy and no real practical cleaning function.
Best options I can find for a replacement is a reman Bosch sensor by Cardone, PN 74-4712, or a new Delphi AF10320. I can't find a spec sheet anywhere for the Delphi, but it appears to be film type and not hot wire. Bosch seems to be the only hotwire sensor.
Should I go for the Bosch reman or the new Delphi?
If I get the Delphi, does it have an equivalent 'burn off' circuit to clean it?
If no then I'm guessing I need to run a dry filter and ditch the K&N or will otherwise be plagued with oil film shenanigans.
Appreciate the feedback.

Re: Couple MAF Questions
Switch to speed density.
If you want the MAF to work, you should go with Tuned Performance's suggestion and GET RID OF THE K&N.
Amsoil has an excellent line of dry element cone filters that will last 100k miles and can be blown out with compressed air - surely you can find something in their catalog that will work for you.
K&N filters suck anyway. Their filtering is garbage compared to dry element filters. Part of why OEM's don't use that design.
