How often should you clean your maf sensor?

Thanks

Re: 86 lb9 maf cleaning

You can use a soft brush to clean the metal matrix (screen) in either end. Those screens really should have little or no accumulation of any kind if the air filter is in good order. If they are clean, there is no need to perform any other cleaning.

If the screens reveal an accumulation of film or dirt, there may be some accumulation in the sensor tube as well. Using any liquid cleaners to remove buildup can have risks. Some of the plastics and polymers in the MAF may not tolerate cleaners. Choose something safe and inert if possible.

If the system is working properly there is no benefit to external cleaning of the hot wire sensor. The routine burn-off cycle heats the wire element sufficiently to slough off any accumulation. However, the reference temperature sensors can accumulate contaminants which are not burned off automatically. So long as the sensors are about equally insulated by contamination the MAF should function, but its reporting of air measurement could be a little slow and with a lot of hysteresis.

As you may have deduced, keeping a GOOD air filter in the system can help the MAF last indefinitely.

Awsome thanks for clearing it up
