How hard is it to learn Tuner Pro
So I have 92 350 GTA and just had an auto-electric mechanic get some electrical bugs out.
In the process he said he had to make an adjustment to my TPS. That got me to wondering is there a way to check all of the sensors on this engine prior to me picking the car up because it would be a long time before he would have an opening to see this car again.
I have had the hardest time finding anyone that would work on this car so I want to take advantage of this opportunity and his willingness to look into this for me. He does not typically work on TPI engines but thought it was kind of cool so he gave this one a shot. He is willing to wait a little bit if I can find an answer to testing all the sensors before the car leaves his shop.
I was told that this is possible with tuner pro. If it is indeed possible to test all the sensors with tuner pro what's the best place to buy one and are there any other attachments that I need to purchase with it to make this happen?

What about a guy like me, who can not figure out why the Right clicking on a photo, no longer brings up the "search for photo image and description" or whatever it was called, window?

Hi,
I think TunerPro is a great platform.
Yes, there is a learning curve.
However, the flexibility with viewing data and chip programming is really good.
I think just about anyone can learn the tool.
Have Fun!
Best Regards,
Bruce

Re: How hard is it to learn Tuner Pro
In my experience your success in this effort is based on your interest in learning the intricacies of a TPI system and using what you know to maintain and/or tune the car. The subject to me is not intuitive (especially if you don't have car diagnostic or sensor experience in general) and if you don't use what you learn you will forget it or worse make mistakes based on your misunderstanding and get in more trouble.
There are a couple old books that explain the sensors well. What they look like, theory of operation, where they are on the car. There are several kinds of sensors. These sensors work in conjuction and provide the computer with data to decide how to fuel the engine. You need to know which sensor does what. Some sensors are not tested with TunerPro, some a multimeter is what you use.
Then learn TunerPro, there are more concepts and more uses for TP than what you are looking for, so there is a lot more there you could step into.
I don't think there is a documented step x step approach to what you want to do anywhere, your skills researching TGO and asking for help will come in handy.
My 2c.

I don't understand 99% of it, but it's kind of fun to come on here and look for answers.

Re: How hard is it to learn Tuner Pro
To Run Tuner-Pro you need a laptop, and download the free software. You will need the ALDU1 cable to go from the diagnostic port on the car to your laptop computer. Get the cable from Moates.net. The hardest part IMHO is the initial TP set up. I had to watch a few tutorials to figure it out. There are some presets and cable acquisition that have to be done for it to work properly. Once set up it is pretty cool to see all the data being fed to the ECM @ real time. TP will not test your sensors as the OP stated but you can see if they are functioning properly. I think it was well worth the learning curve to get TP going.
BTW, IIRC the TPS is not adjustable on a 92, you may have a little play in the screw holes but when they switched to speed density the TPS was fixed.
