multi-prog chip?

Hey all. Anybody have any experience with multi- program chips like the JET '6-pack'? I've never even seen one up close, but how hard would it be to DIY a custom setup like one of these? I dunno about 'valet' and all that, but i was thinking it would be cool to have like 3 or 4 of your favorite progs on tap at all times ie- some punk is tryin to look fast at a lite, flip a switch & roast his ars, back to decent fuel economy?? Thanx

Dun right all you need is one chip, the only real variable is fuel, if your on race gas you can tweak things a little.

You'd let a valet drive your car?. <sigh>

LOL- hell no. I meant there would obviously be no need for the 'valet' mode, just different performance stages. I'm still kinda new to DIY PROMing and I'm still kinda fuzzy on the different ECM modes & how to modify them independently
My original idea was to have a small auxillary fuel cell with race gas, that way you could run regular or mid grade normally for economy, but when you really wanted to get on it you would have a dual-tank switch valve like a full-size truck. The switch that would change progs would be wired to switch tanks at the same time. I guess I'm still werkin on the theory of th 'ultimate daily driver'...

Please post the part number if you find a valve that will handle the high pressure of the TPI fuel pump. I have looked before for one and none of the manufacturers that I found had a valve that would handle the fuel pressure.

You might want to look into the line lock solinoids if you're serious about needing a valve strong enough to shut off fuel pressure and divert it to another "open" line lock solinoid. I don't see why they wouldn't work except they've got gasoline in the line instead of brake fluid. That might be a problem, I don't know, just giving you an idea.
All you would need is 2 of them but the whole idea of having it so no delay in the fuel flow would be tricky. I guess if you ran an exterior inline pump where the stock fuel filter is and then ran to lines into the 2 tanks/fuel cell then you could put the line lock solinoids imbetween and have it so either one or the other is on and never both.
Good luck.

Yeah i dunno- tpi might be tricky to do a setup like this. I used to work in a Chevy parts dept years ago & I know some tbi trucks came with dual tanks and had selector switches/valves. You probably would want a little delay switching progs so that you burn off whats left in the lines of the regular gas so you're not still running low-grade after the switch. I still don't get the multi-prog deal tho (like the jet setup)- do you actually need different chips on one board or is it just 1 huge chip with all the progs & somehow it's selectable? I agree with Grumpy, one well-calibrated chip should be able to do it all, but I think this might be too far of a stretch for 1 prog to handle (??) Anybody?

Go over to the diy-efi.org website. They have a diagram that shows you how to use one large eprom with multiple programs. Just flip a few switchs. I think it could be good if you have a N2o eprom, N/A, etc. Diferent programs will make the car drive differently and that can be good in some cases.

Other easier ways to do the same thing.
Still using one chip.

How? Just by messing with certain tables and leaving other ones alone? I'm just starting at hacking my own chips, so I'm not too sure of what I'm looking at yet...

Just out of curiousity, I took at gander at that 6-in-1 schematic on the DIY_EFI site- how would you go about loading different progs on the single chip so that the switch knows where they all are? Thanx

You'll never believe what can be done with a chip. It takes years to get it all down pat. For the time you put into a switcher you could be putting that time into getting a good chip.

If you have a program that that uses a 27128 eprom, you can load it back to back on a 27256. Then switch between the too.
A 2732 can be loaded 4x in a 27128.

Again, taking your time, and keeping good notes will get you the best results. Switching will just allow you to change between the least of all evils.

Now commerically for someone not doing their own chips, it helps cover the chip writters butt, since he gets several guesses at what your car might like.
