dash Shift light
Wasn't sure where this should go, but because it involves Programming, although not performance I picked here... move it if it needs to be...
Is the dash shift light controlled by the ECM? and if it is, can I adjust the RPM at which the light turns on?

Depends on which code you're using. It'll be in different locations in each code, and I don't think TunerCat or GMEPro have defined them. I could research it for the $6E code, but I don't have the time or a manual tranny. You can only use the shift like if you have a manual since it doesn't work if your computer thinks you have an auto (manual functions are enabled/checked on).

ok thank you,
I have an automatic, and was hoping to use it for that trans. hmm, Other than having the light missing, I would not think the ECM would care about having a manual. I know there is the TC lockup, what else is special for the automatic, or manual trans in the BIN I wonder...

There is no way that that light can be controlled soley by rpm. It must be load and vehicle speed dependent. Although, it may have a max rpm that it can turn on. For some reason I think mine does but I am always looking at my shift light so I am probably wrong.

GofasterFirebird, you're right, it's controlled by %TPS vs. RPM, time delays, and possibly LV8, and it's enabled above a certain coolant temp.

Ok, I am getting the picture,
So its like if the ECM sees a TPS signal at 75%, the RPM at 3500 etc, it might not throw the Shift light, BUT if it sees a 30% on the TPS and still at 3500 RPM it would throw the light... that would be interesting to play with...
maybe we should contact Tunercat and tell him we want that to be adjustable...

The reason you can't use the dash shift light w/ an A4 is simple....it's 'powered' by the TCC circuit. If you put abulb in the shift light socket of an A4 car, it will light whenever (and only when) the TCC is locked.

that stinks, ok, well I guess that solves that problem.

TCC Torque Converter Lockup, it essentially tells your trans when to lock the torque convertor for better milage, and it tells the transmission to circulate more fluid for better cooling.
