can a hypertech chip be reprogrammed?

I bought my gta with a hypertech stage 2 chip already in it but I'm about ready to try burning my own. Can this chip be erased and reprogrammed or do i need a stock chip?

Yes it can be reprogramed, but save the .bin so you can see what little Hypertech modified.

Why not buy a whole brand new MemCal with the latest BIN for your car (GM does update them periodically) and sell the Hypertech chip? A new MemCal is less than $50, and if you save the BIN from the Hypertech (for research purposes only!), you'll have it, too.

Having said that, there was a post here not long ago about some chip maker purposely crossing their chip traces/memory locations so that you couldn't use their BIN with an OEM MemCal/EPROM...But I don't recall which chip maker it was...I think Traxion or Glenn had the chip...
