What can you do with a custom chip?

I read the tech article. If I purchase all the items listed, what can I change in my car? Obviously the spark and fuel tables, what else? Can I diagnose real problems with these tools? What else can you do besides making a little more power? I think I could really get into this stuff, but I want to make sure it's worth it. Please atleast give me some ideas. Thanks.

For an '89 you can do the following when using TunerCat and the 6E definition file ...

Well there is really only four things anyone can do with tuning a car:

1) Make more power
2) Improve driveability (make it run smoother)
3) Increase gas mileage
4) Decrease emissions

With eprom burning, those are the four things you strive to improve. And yes, it is possible to do all four. Of course, sometimes you will end up sacrificing one (or more) of the four for another. But with eprom burning, you can determine which "mix" you prefer.

Right now, I am working on a special eprom for "highway cruising" so I can run 87 Octane without pinging and then a special eprom to take full advantage of 94 Octane for the track.

There's 100+ different code examples, that I know of.
The 3rd gens in v8 applications use 3.

You need to do some reading.

Try Tim's Intro https://www.thirdgen.org/newdesign/tech/promintro.shtml

And do a search on "Newbie". These posts are very common and the answer is quite repetitive.
