Update on VATS....
OK, checked for the small 24 gauge wires and only ones I see are 2 white ones coming from the column (which I was previously told these are the right ones) which go to a clip, coming from the clip are two small wires, black/white, brown/white. Is this what I'm looking for? Did I find it? So I assume I wire the resistor across the striped wires and not the two white ones coming from the column. Thanks guys

The wires from the resistor connector to the VATS module should be white / blk stripe and purple / white stripe, according to the shop manual.

Yeah they are, bad lighting, I thought it was brown, but it is purple and white. So I guess I have the right one...thanks Tim

Yes, put your resistor across the striped wires. Why are you bypassing the VATS? Are you haveing staring trouble? If so, and the bypass fixes it, then that proves that all that is wrong is the lock cylinder or key (usually the cylinder though) and is easy to fix. VATS is a very effective anti-theft feature. I am believe so strongly that I am retrofitting it into my '87.
