Ghost Lights...Scary
Ghost Lights...Scary
Ok heres the deal:
My courtiousy lights are actin a bit strange. When I am driving around they are off, but then for no reason, they pop on. And I mean no reason if I hit a bump they wont come on, I could be at a light and they will come on though. Well any way, as I am drving they turn on. If I open the door or turn the switch so the lights should come on, they get brighter. Also that switch in the door that turns the lights off and on, well if I push it in the lights go dim, not off, when I let it out, they get bright. Some times though when I push the button in, they go off totally. Does any one got any ideas??? HELLP

domelight bulbs may melt their sockets and cause a fire if on powered continously with a 100% duty cycle. will also have problems with battery discharging when the car is parked. for a quick fix, pull all the domelight bulbs out of their sockets and keep a flashlight in the car.
in thirdgens, domelights are a switched ground system. orange wire provides a constant +12 volts. ground path is through the white wire which runs to door pin switches and the headlight dimmer switch. possible trouble points include chaffed wires, poor aftermarket alarm system install, and faulty door pin switches.

electrical connections of both door pin switches are accessible by removing the drivers & passengers kickpanels. after kickpanels are removed, slide the electrical connectors off the pin switch. if domelights go out, you've found your problem.
