burned, corroded harness!!!!!!!!

Hey,
I have an 87 camaro 350 (crate)and a t-5. and my question is, there are 2 small relay looking boxes that have wire harnesses pluged into them on the passenger side of the motor their between the battery and the coolant tank and their bolted to the inside of the fender. but the one closest to the battery has some serious corosion and burn damage that was crap riged with duct tape buy the previous owner. And i was wondering what this harness does and if i need to replace it. well thanx for any info.

If your motor is carbureted, the relays are for the throttle kicker (near the radiator), and the choke heater (near the fender).

The throttle kicker relay coil is controlled by the ECM. When the coil is disengaged, the relay contacts power the idle stop solenoid, and idle speed is increased. When the coil is engaged, the idle stop solenoid is only powered if the A/C is turned on, in which case, the idle speed is also increased. You may replace the GM relay and mating connector with a 30 ampere Bosch relay and a Bosch mating connector, which are available from most auto parts stores. Here's how to wire the new Bosch relay in place of the GM throttle kicker relay:

pink / black: relay terminal 85 (coil)
black: relay terminal 86 (coil)
light green: relay terminal 87 (NO contact)
pink / black: relay terminal 87A (NC contact)
dark blue: relay terminal 30 (pole contact)

There are two pink / black wires. The one that looses power when you remove the 10 ampere gauges fuse, with the ignitin on, goes to relay terminal 87A.
