VATS Problem Question
VATS Problem Question
If you VATS is failing, what are the signs. My 92 Firebird used to not start once in a great moon, but now it acts up almost everyday. When the key is put to the start position, the gauges move, security light comes on, but no start. What else do I need to look for?
The car was a V6 and is not converted to a carb V8, but I used the stock cranking wire.
Thanks
Mark

There are a number of posts on diagnosing problems with the VATS system. Do a search on "VATS" in the electronics section. If the security light comes on with ignition power & stays on, then it may be that the contacts in the ignition roller assembly that contact the resistor in the key are loose, or dirty, the resistor in the key is dirty, or there is an intermittant connection between the contacts in the roller assembly & the VATS module.
