LED Conversion Kit

Would anyone here be interested in a conversion kit to change your existing Halogen Lights (All but Headlights and Fog Lamps) To LED lights? This kit would contain everything needed to do this. All LED's and anything else needed (Except, of course, for common tools) and would cost around 130 dollars. For this swap over kit you would just need to do a little bit of splicing and possibly some drilling (Haven't worked that out yet) I would like to see a show of people who would be interested in something like this. Thanks guys

yes , johnnyiroc and i were talking about this last night, and did some led tests on his car. it would be a "kit" do do ALL lights execpt for headlights and fogs. so it would include the front side markers, park lamps, rear side marker, brake lights, turnsignals, reverse lights, and licence plate lights. what we are trying to do is gauge interest right now, to see if it is something we should attempt to offer as a kit. right now we are both going to do this to our cars and probably some other goodies we have thought about.

what we are wondering is what kind of "kit" would people be interested in (ie full wiring harness, basicly led replacement blubs) so when we do this whole conversion on our cars we can work up and test the kind of parts people might be interested in.(which we have already started , and will try to get pictures of what the LEDs look like on the car when we get ahold of a digi cam)

of course this is still quite some time away for us to have a full kit avail. because we will need to test quite a few diffrent ideas out to find the one best suited to thirdgens.

Right we're looking at testing time and such so we're prolly at a month out. But THe replacement I did in the 3rd brakelight looks really good. But I think I want some different LED's in there. They're only like 15* LED's. thinking more like a 90 degree or even at least a 60. They're 5000 MCD LED's. We haven't yet worked out all the peculiars but we have ideas. WE need to gauge interest though. We thinkin people would really like a kit like this. Hopefully we are right.

I didn't cast a vote in the poll because I think that you should offer them individually. I want to do my taillights and 3rd brake lite, but the rest I couldn't justify the cost for. The side markers ont he front wouldn't look right IMO, niether would the front turn signal/park lamps.

Just my honest input $.02

Good idea you guys have.... just that i'd make it so that you could buy one or all depending on needs.

That wouldn't be that difficult to supply them seperate either. If we made the kit available for the whole conversion or whichever you wanted to convert would you be interested? keeping in mind, of course, that the rear is where 80% of the lights would be anyways.

I like the idea. If a kit is made available, I may consider adding it to my car.

Depends on the price. You know most of us 3rd genners are cheap @$$e$. I could make the 3rd lite myself and buy LED bulbs at AutoZone for the tails... Total cash outlay... About $50 or less....

Those bulbs are worth crap. They don't look very nice.

I bought 5 led's for the third brake light and resistors and it cost me 17

uhh.. no... Radioshack is just not cheapest around. 2 bucks for the 2 types of resistors and 3 for each led.

LED's are brighter and more directional. isntead of diffusing like Halogen's they're sharp all the time. They also come on and go off faster than the Halogen's and are brighter. No pics yet. I have to finish the conversion and get a Digi cam.

I'll get some pictures in the next few weeks. You'll just have to wait until I actually complete the conversion on my car

If you build it, I am game. Simple as that. I've been trying to make one myself but my saudering skill is laughable and I know enough to get myself in trouble. Really though, if you find a way, post it, I would definitely be down for LED tail lights.

I'd have to see what the final product looks like before I know if I would be interested.

Great! Keep the comments coming and we'll get a proto type harness and it installed as soon as possible!

the leds are going to burn out quite a bit faster than the stock bulbs arent they?

uhh.. no. LED's last like 5 times as long as your stock bulbs. And they never go dull always the same brightness. Halogens are woefully inefficient.

So anyways It appears we may be using super bright white led's for the kit around 15-20 per back light and probably 5 for the front markers. Price may be more like 180 dollars though. We'll have to see how the first proto-types go. Keep the comments coming so we can gauge interest!

At this time we don't have a test bird to do it on. The Lighting for them we'll be a bit different. If we can find one in our area we will do it.

Now hold the phone. The DOT isn't down for having super blinding LED's causing accidents so you can think your 'G' Money.

If this isn't RICE I don't know what is ?

This guy makes a valid point. LED's would have to be DOT approved or the cops could give you a defective equipment ticket or a lawsuit could be brought up against the manufacturer if it caused an accident.

Good point. :hail:

Sorry about that, I was a little prude on that reply.

Led's are very focus, and like LED shift lights they blind the crap out of you. (I can be looking 90 degrees off, and my shift light blinds me)

Maybe to over come this, might be a better defuser, one better than the tail assembly.

You might also have a problem viewing from the side. To much from the rear, and not enough from the side.

Good Luck Guys,

Ron

Yes we are aware of that problem, that is some of the stuff we are trying to work out. the key to getting it to look right, and be safe, is to select the correct number, brightness and style of LED to make this swap work, and that is what alot of our time is going to. if we stuck like 25 3000mcd LED's that are only like 10* veiwable, we would have problems. so we are working on making it not to directional, and not to bright, well still being able to see it.

So try about 40 LEDs PER light with a 60 degree viewing angle.

I have LED tailights, turn signals and pretty much everything else. IF you want I'll provide some pics of mine so ppl can see what they look like.

that is exactly what we are working out right now, is the number and brightness we need to make this look right, well being easy to install, so that anyone could do this with basic hand tools.
