How do I tell if the computer is bad?
How do I tell if the computer is bad?
I've got a 92 305tbi with a 700r4 transmission. The torquer converter is not engaging so I have no fourth gear. My mechanic checked the transmission and its good since the rebuild about 10 mos. He's leaning toward it having a bad computer or a bad ground. How do you test for these conditions? Thanks for your response

There is a connector that plugs into the transmission for 4th geat detect & TCC control. The purple wire should have 12 volts to it when the ignition is on & the brake is not depressed. The tan / black wire goes to the ECM. It grounds this wire to engage the TCC. This wire also goes to the ALDL connector, so you can manually ground it there & see if the TCC locks up. The light blue wire is grounded by the transmission when it is in 4th gear - it goes to the ECM, as an indicator.
