high out put alternator questions..

I want to buy a high output alternator for my car. i have a 105 amp now and it doesnt get the job done.. i want to get a new 150 or 170amp. will this effect my engine power that much? i heard it can take like 10hp. i have a 305ci engine if that matters.
thanks,
Alan

The police Camaro conversion includes a Caprice 140 ampere alternator. The GM part number for the alternator is 10463338, and the GM part number for the bracket is 10118722. The bracket & alternator setup are designed to work on a single serpentine setup. You may be able to get the alternator cheaper at a local parts store.
