timing- - - HELP
I have a 1985 Berlinetta. It has the 305, and a carb. I think the problem i am having has to do with the timing. The car bogs BAD in between shifts (auto) and when i get on it. I attempted to adjust the timing, but the plate with the numbers is wnder the water pump! I can't run the car without the water pump. Please help! oh yah I am using a strobing timing light.

You should be able to see the timing plate & mark on the balancer by peering straight down, between the water pump & the timing chain cover, if the timing degree plate is at 12:00 (viewing the balancer from the front of the engine). Other setups have the plate @ 2:00, which is a bit easier to see. Maybe your bog is being caused by a defective accelerator pump on the carb, or, if you have done mods, maybe it needs a bigger shot. Could be too big of a shot, too, if you have an aftermarket carb.
