I'm used to doing timing adjustments in old classic cars, but i don't know how to do it exactly on my newly bought 85 iroc-z, i'm to understand i have to unplug somethign that retards the timing, but what and where is it, and were are the numbers and tdc on this thing, thanks

You are correct. There should be a connector(single wire) in the harness in front of the blower motor housing on the passenger side. This wire will remove electronic spark advance and allow the base timing to be set. Unplug the wire then set to 6BTDC for either auto or manual trans. Replug the connector and check for advance. You will possibly throw a trouble code, this can be cleared by pulling the ECM fuse, or disconnecting the battery or the ECM pigtail that comes off the battery.

Is the car heavily modified? Not sure if someone removed the ECM. All models to my knowledge have an ECM, carburated or fuel inj. regardless of the type of dist should have an ECM control unit. The label under the hood still there? It should have timing info. The advance wire is a tan wire located where I stated, it is a single wire with a locking type plastic connector. More info a help, and the solenoid wire is not it.
Well then I don't know like I said no ECM control. Vacum Second with dist. Not really sure where to set timing and how to figure it with the advance?? Guy at the shop said 32 I don't know. With the wire I don't see a tan wire in there at all.
For me I used a paint stick type marker. It worked good, I checked my timing and it was at 7* little to low for eng. So I set it a little higher. To about 9*. Guy at the shop said with advance should be around 32*. How can I figure this out? With the markes just have to take your time. Might have to take some stuff of or lossen it to get to the marks.
