i know this is 4 gen related but maybe somebody can help.

I am posting this for a friend. he has a 98 z28 with the factory alarm. he says he can arm it and disarm it then when he tries and start it he get's nothing and the security light blinks then stay's on. he said he had the chip in the key tested and it's fine any idea's cause he really do'nt want to take it to the dealer and get robbed.

i wonder if the alarm has a starter disingage, meaning that nobody can start the car even if they tripped the alarm. If so I would try pulling the fuse to the alarm. Then try to start it. if that is the problem, I would replace the relay switch for the starter on the alarm.

 

4th gens are vats equipped too. key resistor value reader is integrated into the bcm (body control module) instead of being a standalone unit. like thirdgens an incorrect resistor pellet value or malfunctioning vats system will cause a no crank/no fuel condition. also like thirdgens, the common failure part in the vats system is the ignition key cylinder contacts that read the resistor value.

some well equipped 4th gens also come with a factory keyless entry system and audible alarm.
