whats so good about 8mm wires
I think the idea behind 8 mm wires is that they are thicker then normal plug wires. This means that there is more metal in there, which equals a lower resistance per foot then other wires. The lower resistance means more power makes it to each spark plug, in theory making more power. They help more the high the RPMs are, if I remember right.
I don't know how much they help stock, but they are a must with aftermarket ignition systems. I guess if you have the extra bucks to spare and need new wires anyway they won't hurt.

The very first upgrade I did to my car when I got it was change the to Accel 8mm wires and Bosh +4 plugs. The car was totally stock and the difference was awesome. The throttle response increased and the smoothness accelerating was like I was driving a different car.

Accel has a universal set (unterminated, finish the ends yourself) for abut 25 bucks in most major parts stores.. I think the pre-finished sets were only 5-10 bucks more.. the swap should be a piece of cake if you do it right and *one* wire at a time as to not change your firing order.

The stock replacement wires for my car were 7mm, but I noticed the ones for 86 and older cars are 8mm. I went to Pep Boys and looked up Borg Warner wires, and bought the set for an 86 TPI F-body. They were $25, a year or so ago. All I needed was an extra 8mm coil wire because mine is a divorced coil. When I measured their resistance, the highest one was 2000 ohms. My dad has measured some of the "higher end" wires like Accel, MSD, Taylor, etc, and they come out to 15,000 ohms or more! For twice the price, even. Whats up with that?
