Car won't turn over

Changed my heater core and put everything back together. Now the car will not crank up. Everything on the car runs(including a/c and headlights), but the motor and the hatch switch. I tried to see if jumping it would help but it didn't. I have no clue as where to begin my search. I hate electronics.

Car: '92 Typhoon/ '79 Vette
Engine: Turbo 4.3L/Forged 355ci
Transmission: 4l60/th350
Try turning on the headlights, and starting the car. obviously it wont start, but it will tell us if it is battery related.

------------------
1st car: 1979 corvette, power everything, leather, of course T-tops, KandyBrandyWine. <-thats the color.

engine: Eagle Forged Pistions & rods, shaved heads, 10:1 compression, lifted cam (I think it was .274, nothing too extreme) small bore arround .020 open element air, dual freeflow exaust etc.

Tranny: sadly still a TH350, but plans for a T-56.

Other: L-88 hood, complete brake upgrade, plans for a 1"-2" drop a fiberglass rear spring, and 3:90 gears.

2nd car: 1985 WS6 Trans AM, power everything as well, glass T-tops which i love, chiped maroon.

Engine: bone stock sloth of an engine LG4, in need of valveguides.

Tranny: T-5. thank god, i couldnt stand an LG4 auto.

Other: in the works for a heavy hittin stereo system. Plans for an LT-1 or LT-4, but who know if its gonna happen. dual exaust, flowmaster mufflers, etc. some soft shocks and springs. i want to do the 4th gen style wing and RamAir hood, Paint the car Hugger Orange, and do the spoiler and ground effects black. Mail me if you have input on this.

i figgure, make the vette the fast one, and make the TA the one that rides nice. even though the vette is kickin the TA's AS$ in everything right now.

also plans for dual flowmaster exaust,

Got the vette when i was 16, paid for it myself, screwd the engine up (idiot light didnt work, and i trusted the guy when he said he just changed the oil), and it turned into a project car.

The hatch switch is grounded through the gear selector switch. Your car will only start in Park/Neutral, as well as only opening the hatch in those gears. This is assuming that you have an automatic transmission. Do you?

Yes it is a auto. I just don't know where to look. Everything on the car works. I can even run my amp, a/c,headlights, etc.
The only thing that doesn't work is the hatch switch and the car not starting.
I changed the heater core and before I put everything back together, I started the car just fine, but once I got everything back together it would not start!
Thanks(Lost in GA)

I am not an expert on cars but the first thing I would check is to make sure you didn't blow a fuse. Then i would like and see if there are wires around the heater core that you might have damaged. Just a thought.

is it that your engine wont even crank at all, or that it will, but wont turn over?
If absolutly nothing happens when you turn the key, it may be your ignition switch, if you hear a click, or it wont turn, it could be your starter. I have no clue as to why your heater core would cause any of this.......

It is probably just a coincidence that this happened at the same time. When I turn the key all the dash lights come on, but that is it. I also hear something in the back that sounds like the fuel pump I think but that only happens after I wait to try to crank it for awhile

Check your Park/Neutral Switch. Take off your shifter console. In front of your gear shifter, there are a bunch of wires going into it. There should be a green wire at the top. Connect this wire to ground and see if your motor starts up and if your hatch release works.
