Radio Shack sells flashing LEDs - if the LED is not a 12 volt LED (it has an internal resistor), you will need to put a 680 ohm resistor in series with the LED.

Get a 12-volt flashing LED...hook the positive side (Is that the cathode or anode? I forget) to constant positive. Hook the other side to SWITCHED positive, like ignition or accessory. Then the LED will flash only when your key is off.

Anode = positive
Cathode = negative
Don't forget a current limiting resistor, if it's not meant to run on 12 VDC.
