Desperately need advice NEW ECM??
I have an 86IROC which was converted to Speed density 4 yrs ago. I have th ecar for 6 months and ever since that time it has been running in open loop. I rang th eguys up who converted the car to SD and they sai dthey did not exchange the ECM only reburnt the chip and rewired to MAP. My question is is it necessary to exchange the ECM from a MAP car??? If so could you guys give me some advice on what I should do as far as ECM goes and chip etc... I live in Australia and advice is a greatly appreciated!
What do I need to do to get it right? I want to stay with SD!

I don't think a '165 ECM can run a MAP TPI system. Unless they screwed you big time by lying to you, I think something is seriously wrong, like the forgot to hookup the 02 sensor or they messed up on burning the chip. Do you get a check engine lite at all ?

Blade, I have never got a code at all even when I disconnected the O2 sensor on purpose when the car was warm. When I short out A and B on the ALDL all I get is code 12. I have never had the SES light give out codes when I disconnected something.
Is there a way to check if the O2 sensor is connected properly other than a scanner? Perhaps with a volt meter or something?
This is a copy of the service they performed:
Have Air mass meter bypass + MAP sensor fitted + rewired + rechiped to suit $645

You can test the O2 sensors with a multi meter if you look in the archives it will give you the correct allowances for what is or isnt good, if you did get nailed by these guys doing this install incorrectly you can also do a few things, go junk yard hopping and see what you can get as far as wiring harness/computer all the works, I bought a whole car for 700 by the time I sold off what I didnt need so I got an eng/trans wiring and all for that much so you could go cheaper that way, or some of the aftermarket Co's like painless sell kits that may work as well and would be less than the price you mentioned.
good luck

'87 Monte Carlo SS,with '89 IROC 350,700 trans, blew up 3.73 posi stuck with crappy 2.73's neeed gears! hooker headers, flow's 2 1/2" exhaust true dualls, recently installed a set of alum vette heads 58cc, new cam for a paxton, waiting on paxton till I can find a good rearend. So if anyone knows where a buick GN 8.5" rear is let me know.

The ECM's are totally different. The MAF and MAP are different (The MAF sensor "pulls down" a +5v reference to represent increased airflow and a MAP "pushes up" the v). Later ECM's had a 256k PROM while the MAFs had 128k's (I think).
