Rewire the whole car?

Has anyone dealt with installing a new wire harness in thirdgens? I'm not talking about the engine harness for a TPI, etc, but Painless' harness for all the lights, power locks, horn, etc, etc... how hard is it? do you have to take the whole car apart or can it be done easily? :conf:

Well..I re-wired my complete car w/a factory 89 harness(it's an 86 converted to an 89)and I had to completely gut the entire interior--this included dropping the entire dash. the job does sound complicated but as long as you have everything wired it should go pretty smooth. Just take your time--hopefully it's not your only car either. Taking your time--maybe--it'll take you a long weekend.
Good luck.

If you have tools, time, and space, then go for it. As long as your car isn't your daily driver, then you could do a good job. I totally took my 86 Z apart and it isn't too hard, but it is time consuming. The key is organization. Buy a box of Ziplock bags and label them w/ what you put in there.

Just got done with a Painless 18 Circuit kit. Everything went smooth. I took my time and made it look nice. Its pretty easy. All the wires are labeled. You have to use some of the old harness for HVAC, A/C, and use some of the old relays if you want it to work right.

I started doing mine about a month ago and havent had time to mess with it. I also did the 18 circuit painless harness. Its going pretty good, but i just dont have the time to finish it right now. Its not hard to do at all though just take your time.

I"m going to rewire the entire car in a month (I''m totally rebuilding it) so far from what I've heard and seen painless 18 circut seems desent but as all wiring it takes time. while we're on the topic does anyone know if that 18 circut wiring work with the electronic rear hatch?

The 18 circuit kit has mostly everything. The couple things you need to keep from your stock harness is the A/C and heater controls and rear defrost controls. You also need to keep the coolant fan and fuel pump relays.
