voltmeter needle jumps
voltmeter needle jumps
I just completed my tpi swap and have had some problems ( who hasnt) anyways. MY alt took a dump this week ( my fourth since '97) Now with a new alt. and battery my voltmeter loves to jump very small jumps ( .5 volts or so) now I am running only on 7 cyl. at the moment ( have one bad injector has 2ohm res. ) all others at 18 ohm) but this volt drop makes me nervous. I have had fuel problems lately . New pump but then that 3 inch hose ruptured on me and had to take the tank down again
and now that new pump has f*** up on me
and my new fan relay has shorted on me. but that one is my fault due to the fact that I have been running a aux fan on the same circuit. too much current. but I was wondering if anyone has had this small volt drop before. By the way I just found this site and have to say thank you all. I never knew there were people that loved there 3 gen as much as me.

The voltmeter always moves around because of varying load demands on the battery. A half volt is pretty good for one of these. Generally with the AC on and the electric fans running a 2 volt drop at idle is not uncommon. Something I learned recently helping someone on the board is that they run the sense line for the alt to the fuse panel heater motor circuit. They look for a voltage drop to fire the alternator. The reason you may see a drop off and on is that when a lot of current is pulled by the fans or whatever it takes a split second for the alt to kick up it's output. Welcome to TG, you will enjoy the learning and discussion. Dan
