Replacing headlight/turn signal/windshield wiper switch
Replacing headlight/turn signal/windshield wiper switch
I Need to replace my switch, because of the windshield wiper controls. My car is equiped with cruise control. Is this easily removed or does the steering column need to be torn apart. Currently my wipers is unattached under the hood because they will not turn off, and it is raing more and more here. Any help on this is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

The windshield wiper switch is controlled by the multifunction lever, but is not part of the multifunction lever - it is mounted to the column. To get to the switch , you will need to remove the multi function lever. To remove the multifunction lever, make sure it is in the "off" position & pull it out of the column.

Do what Tim said. Then to replace the wiper switch, you have to pull the steering wheel, remove the lock plate, remove the turn signal switch, ignition cylinder, and the 3 torx bolts that hold the plastic shroud down. A metal pin holds the switch to the shroud. Its not too bad. I just did it when i installed my intermittant wipers. I had to unbolt the column too so i could pull out the wires for the switch.

So nothing is going to break if the switch is off, and I gently pull the multi function switch straight out. Well, I suppose there is always a possability of breakage with anything. Is there any way to test rather or not it is the multi-lever or the switch itself. The windshield wipers stay on at a "low" speed when I switch the lever to the "off" position. Thanks again and sorry for the persistence but its calling for rain here for the next week and its truley a huge PITA to pop the hood everytime it starts or stops raining.

?-Do you have intermittant wipers?
Just pull straight out. Its scary the first time, but after that, its fun to do. I can almost 100% guarantee that its not the lever. The lever only turns the switch. The switch is what decides what signal to send to the wiper motor.

You should check the switch functionality at the connector under the column with a volt meter, to determine if the problem is the switch, or the control module in the motor assembly, first. If you don't have a shop manual, you should be able to find the wiring diagrams at:
