Power Hatch

Hey everyone this is my first post here
Only been an FBody owner for 2 weeks now, and really am liking the car so far, i mean its not perfect but its a used car, whaddya want?
Anyway, this is the first problem i've had that didn't go away on its own. I think the power hatch shutter thing is stuck in the down position, because no matter what i do it won't latch shut any pull down. I or anyone else could walk out to my car right now and open that hatch (NOT COOL!!)
I've tried everything i know how to get the thing to wake up as far as jocking with it, but i've never slammed it shut. Thats a no no. All the fuses under the dash are good, and the popper thing in the center console still works. But since it never latches, unlatching it dosen't do much good. Anyway, any input would be really great. Is there a manual release that brings the thingy back up?
Thanks everyone!

the fuse for the motor is separate from the fuse block. it should be floating around in the same general area under the dash though.
as for the motor, there is a switch right in there with the latching mechanism that if you push it should activate the motor to go down and come back up which is what I think happened to yours.
sometimes the striker (the bar the latch grabs to pull the liftgate down) doesnt catch in the latch and the motor gets confused (i dont know it sounds reasonable) on its way down and stops. this is because to get the motor to work this switch that i was talking about has to be pushed in by the striker. when the striker isnt in the latch the motor just pulls itself down and the switch is pulled away from the striker, stopping the motor.
long story short -- look for the extra fuse then push this switch a couple times.

man I really need to get a digital camera!!!!

Fixed it! If I remember, I'll take a picutre with my digicam and circle the little lever you have to push on to make the latch mech. raise or lower. It was a really easy thing to solve, just had to find the right spot and push on it with a keychain! But working on it in the daylight sure helped me figure it out....
Thanks for the input!

I have a 91 GTA with the same problem. Hatch opened, but will not close for latch lock down. can you send a picture of the release "button" and location? Appreciate your help. I have already checked the 15 and 20 amp fuses mentioned in the GM manual, all are good, and no loose wires. Thank you. Bulldog.

Ok its really easy, but the picture is worth 1K words for this! Call me stupid, but i don't actually know how to post a picture, i'm only seeing ways to post one thats hosted somewhere else, but i can email it to you if you want, if you give me your address. I'm sure you wanna get this taken care of ASAP, i know i did! Its so simple you'll almost kick yourself (trust me! i was like "oh, thats it? DUH! when i did it)
Sorry for anyone else who may need this, i'll figure out how to post it someday!
