alternator help

Hey. Just rewired everything and alternator belt is squeling(sp) badly. when you unplug the 2 wires from the alternator the noise stops. The way we have it wired is the large black with red stripe wire on the back of the alternator is hot all the time and in the plug the red is hot all the time and the other wire goes back to the harness. We figured this from our other Iroc. It is charging but heats up the belt and pully very fast.

Thank You

Chris

sounds like the bearing inside the alternator is bad, I would check the belt to see if it is glazed over or cracked. It could be the belt, but sounds like when there is a load on it, the bearing is squeling. which could also cause the pully to become hot.

Keep in mind it could be the belt aswell. But just a thought about the bearing. Seen a couple like that.
if you have a volts gauge, and it is charging. Then i don't think the wireing is bad.
