AHHHH what's up with my tach

well today i decided to see how hard i thought it would be to change the lights in the back of my gauge cluster(i was quite bored) so i take out the tools and take off all the front panels and get back to just the gauges and the lights. i decided to see what was behind my tach(VERY BIG MISTAKE, well not really but quite annoying) and then dinner was gettin ready so i figured time to put this all back together. well i start and get everything assembled the same way(or so i thought) and i start it up to pull it more in the garage and i'll be damned if my tach, oil, and water temp dont freaking work. the tach just runs up to 4500 and stops and the other two dont move. so i cuss for a few minutes, was quite frustrated. and then take it all apart again and think i have the problem fixed, so i reassemble and same problem. so i do this once or twice more and think well i must be tightening somethin to much. so i do it and i am on the next to last screw on the final cover and i'll be damned if i dont screw it up again. so now tomorrow i have to go take another half hour plus and fix it. is this normal for this to happen.... i have decided i was putting to much pressure on the tach and moving the screws to far back. oh well, i figured out the answer to my question. changing the lights wouldn't be hard it would just be hard to screw the tach in right.

I am having a similiar problem

Is it the temp gauge or the volt meter thats not working.
does this happen all the time or just under certain circumstances
(like when you turn on the headlights.)
Give me some more info and I will try to help.
Look under the post
tach jumps with turn signal by canadianbeast and see if
this sounds like your problem.

no that's completely different. u must not have read very closly. i took apart my gauge cluster... well kinda. i took the faces off and then started putting them back on and my tach didn't work it jumped to 4500 rpm and acted like that was idle speed. and it's my oil and my water temp that weren't working either. i was tightening some of the screws to tight which was pushing the tach to far back, that's all i can figure. i fixed it but it just took a while because i had to turn very gently and not get them to tight and if i did i had to start all over.
