Help! I can't get my CD Player to work!

I just bought a 88 Iroc a week ago. The guy I bought it from told me the cdplayer won't work because there was a short in the fuse. How can I fix this problem or find out what the problem is?

aside from my camaro my driving car is an 88 toyota corolla. at times my cd player just goes out like a fuse blew, yet all the fuses are good. when i disconnect it completely and leave it like that over night or for a few days, the cd player resets itself to factory condition and works again. ihave been told that the rom can get scrambled inside the cd player, and disconnecting it for long periods of time resets the rom.
