Help, I think I fried my ECM
Help, I think I fried my ECM
I have an '86 Camaro with a 350 swapped in, & it had the original computer-controlled Q-Jet. It ran fine, I got a SES light fairly regularly, but it never affected the performance of the car. Today I swapped in a new computer-controlled Q-Jet to replace the old one. When I was done, I drove the car, & it drove beautifully for the first 2 minutes or so. Then the SES light came on & everything went to hell. I could tell I wasn't getting any timing advance, the car ran like total crap, barely even staying running. I limped it home, turned it off, then turned the key to ACC. The M/C solenoid didn't respond at all (no clicking sound). I started it again & I immediately got an SES light & it stayed on. Car would barely run & had no throttle response. So, does it sound like I fried the ECM? If so, if I simply replaced it, would it likely fry again? What could cause this? I really don't know what to do here, any advice is welcome, thanks!
Mike,
It sounds like it's a good time to clear and reinitialize the ECM. See the Tech Articles for details, or search the archives.

Vader, there was no change. The M/C solenoid is still unresponsive & everything. I couldn't find any connections or wires that had been melted or cut. I'd appreciate any other suggestions. Either way, I appreciate your time & help.
