HELP! Ac pump not getting any Voltage!

Well my a/c never worked when I got my car, I noticed the pump didnt ever turn so i checked the power going to it and it has no voltage. I traced the wires back to the firewall to see if the wire was split, I couldnt find it but it has to be somewhere, i stopped because the wires went into a big look with like 20 wires.

The fuse is still good. I dont know how I am gonna find out where its messed up, Any help please?

Thanks

Have you had the freon level checked by chance? If the A/C system (and this is by no means expert diagnosis) has extremely low/no charge (freon) the A/C pump (and by pump I'm assuming you mean the compressor clutch) will not engauge.

Yeah the A/c Compressor. It has power wires going into it. but the wires do NOT have voltage going to them like they should. If they had voltage going to them they should work. Hmmm this is gonna be a royal BIATCH! to find where the wire is cut!

im assuming the wire in question goes from the battery (or other constant 12v) to the compressor.. right? if thats the case, the wire will have voltage if you hook up a voltmeter to it, because the meter provides a load... if you dont have voltage, then the wire is cut somewhere, as suspected..

ummmm, I dont belive its a constant hot wire, the wire runs somewhere.... to the switch in the heater control panel, that powers the selenoid for the clutch. easy test to see is the ac has any pressure at least is to take off that black cap and press the pin with a screwdriver, just enough to see if there is pressure, it should be like letting air out of a tire, if there is not much pressure behind it, trying to get it to work is useless, but if there is pressure, run some jumper wires stait from the battery to the terminal, and see if the ac works.......

There is No way I am trying that, If i hook it straight to the batter, and it shorts, or overloads, I am ****ed.

OK this is Exactly what I did, started up the car, turned the a/c on the climate controls on. went with a neon light tester, and checked to see if there is any voltage. The light didnt go on, therefore there was no voltage... Does anyone have a Schematic Diagram for this? I need to find out where the wire runs so I can find out where It's Cut... Why on earth would somone cut it? If they didnt want the a/c they could have just took out the fuse.... hrmmm? Well back out to the garage..

there is a pressure switch on the accumulator which will prevent the compressor from working if the system is low on freon, the accumulator is the silver thing near the firewall on the passenger side of the engine bay, there is a switch mounted on the side of it with two wires going to it, disconnect the wires and temporarily install a jumper from on wire to the other (with the engine running and the A/C on) the clutch should engage, if it does the system is low on freon. (only let the compressor run for a short time (just long enough to see if the clutch engages)). if it does not engage the there may be a fuse or something else wrong. but start there.

Thanks Bud, I just did that and found out the clutch *did* engage. I must be low on Freon. I found a can of Freon in the garage that must be like 10 years old. I need a recharge kit to recharg it right? Or should I just get a shop to retrofit it to R134a?

I would get a shop to test the system for leaks and such, R-12 is very expensive, it would be a shame to recharge it and loose it all due to a leak. as for the retrofit, I had it done (the right way) and have not been happy with it at all. I have read on this board about alot of people who like it, I think its about a 50/50 split though. do your self a favor and do a search on the subject, you'll be suprised at the info you will find.
