I bought a new 88 L98 GTA and the guy before me rigged up the fans to a switch on the dash that when pushed activates the secondary fan....The wires were hooked up to a relay. Well the relay died and I couldn't find another so I messed around with the wiring. I hooked it up so when I pushed the dash button, both fans would turn off, in effect quickly reducing my temperature, but putting huge strain on my alternator, always lowering my voltage to under 12 with both fans on. Can anybody give me an idiots guide to wiring up the fans properly so I won't kill my charging system.

How come when the engine gets hot and both fans kick in (on a stock-wired GTA), the voltage does not drop like it is when I hooked both of them up?
