electical all f*^% up

ok i had a b&m shifter put in and the shift cable got messed up so i put the stock shifter back in but we didnt have all the parts so there is three wires which i think are reverse light and so fourth. i must touch those wires to anither thicker wire to start my car. also my starter went and my battery. after i replaced the battery and connected the new one my emergency lights went on there was no way to turn them off except pulling the fuse. Also my main problom my running lights work but no brake lights and no interior lights dont work neither my brake or turn signal lights. i checked the fuse and it was popped and when i tried to put a new one in when the car was running and my engine mad a terrible sound that scared the hell out of me so any ideas would be greatly appreciated thanks for your time.

It sounds like you've got some wires crossed. There are 6 wires that deal with the shifter. Two of the wires are for the neutral start switch(which would explain why the car won't start. This switch is to only allow the car to start in Park or Neutral. But if it is disconnected the car won't start at all.), two are for the backup light switch(which turns the back up lights on when the shifter is in reverse), and two are for the torque convertor lockup(I think. Which allows the torque convertor to lock whenever the car is in OD and the brake pedal is not pressed).

I install a B&M Megashifter in my car a couple of weeks ago and the instructions that came with it tell you the wire colors and function of 4 of the 6 wires. I don't have them with me right now and I don't remember the wire colors.

If all your problems started when the stock shifter was reinstalled, then I would take a very close look at the wiring under the console.

The neutral safety switch wires are thick yellow and purple. Not sure about the other ones. Maybe It's time to invest in a service manual with some good wiring diagrams.
