wiring up an alternater in a 92 camaro
i was wondering if any one can tell me the right way to hook up an alternator in my 92 camaro
a freind of mine took out a 2.8 engine and replaced it with a 305 out of a 92 and hooked everything up for me the alternator worked fine for about a year then went out i got another one and hooked it up worked for a couple of hours then went through 4 more before it finally worked right ( i wired it up three different ways then a professional wired the fourth one up) for about another year now im going through the same problem again ( i also have a 8 hundred watt amp and four tens in the back to) the alternator is a ac delco from usa but luckily its lifetime warranty

You might need a 1 Farad capacitor to take the peaks and save the alternator. They are about the size of a small car battery but react to current surges a lot more quickly. I lieu of that, you might want to install a second battery to take the surges, then find a 140A Delcotron from a cop car to keep up with the load. Those 70-80A peaks to the sound system alone are tough on the old alternator.

Get a HIGHER AMP altanator out of summit catolog, you need it, your just frying the other one, and at idle if you check your gauges I bet it reads less then 13 volts
