I think the temp gauge is full of crap! please help.

I temp gauge don't seem right it reads like half way between 220 and 260 but the engine bay has like no heat in it.

Also I swaped my cluster for a better speedo and ever since then it has read like this. The first cluster the gauge barely went past 100 and I find that hard to believe. Also it has a V-6 tach in it do you thinkt that the whole cluster is out of a V-6 car? Would that make it read hotter than it actually is? Also I have the Edelbrock RPM heads and a small block Temp gauge sensor wouldn't fit so I got one from a big block would that make a difference? thanks for any help!

1983Z28 350w/ edelbrock performer RPM power package , dynomax shorty headers, 700R-4 with shift kit, 750cfm carb, edelbrock 3" exhaust system, ASCD SS hood, 16" IROC rims.

future mods:
completely done over suspension, black paint with flames, Hurst shifter, dakota digital gauge package, procharger supercharger.

oh so I have to just install the temp gauge sitting in my garage. I need to reduce the size of the opening on the head does anyone know the sizes?

Stock guages are WAY off to begin with. The only thing I will believe is an infrared sensor/temp device. Would be cool to get a setup and have it interface with a full sweep or digital indash display. Maybe have multiple points/sensors (headers, heads, coolant, radiator etc.).
