F!@#$%* Alarm

My alarm pisses me off and I want to take it out. The remote broke so it is useless. It randomly activates itself and goes off. I cut the wires going to the speaker, so it doesn't make noise. So, if I start cutting all the wires going into the box will that get rid of it? I have no idea what brand it is the guy at some car stereo place couldn't tell me either. Should I rip it out or have someone do it? If I do it myself what should I look out for? Thanks for any replys in advance. I know it is hard to answer because you can't see it but if anyone can give me advice I would appreciate it.

Casey - take a deep breath and relax... If you want to eliminate your alarm, chances are the "brain box" is stuffed up inside the dash area - most likely up behind the fuse panel. Most of it probably wouldn't be a problem with taking it out, but if it has a starter-kill feature, you'll have to rewire that back to original configuration. Most likely there will be a couple of BIG wires that are spliced and now hooked to the alarm box itself, and those two wires are probably 2 big yellow ones... everything else should just be power wires and locks, lights, etc., but you can probably figure those out. Look up behind your dash (left side) that's probably where you'll find it. Good luck... take 'er easy...

your starter wire should be thick and PURPLE, and if the alarm was equipped w/ starter kill, THAT wire will be interupted. Just restore it w/o the break and the car'll start up.

Just reinforcing Thunderstick's response

No, the starter wire is yellow. I was trying to trace the purple wire from the starter for about an hour before realizing my mistake. Once it hits the firewall, it becomes a thick yellow wire.

The starter kill relay is wired in the NC (normally closed) position, so it only breaks the starter circut when the alarm is armed. If you cut the power to the alarm or just unplug it, the starter will work fine.

You might want to remove the relay and restore the original wiring just to clean your harness up, but you don't really have to.

I think that would depend on what type of alarm he has. I have a "Code Alarm", and if I cut the power to the alarm itself, my car is not starting...
