Need help with my wrong MAF!!!

I have a question about my maf. I have gta 89 with 350 tpi and a have a very lean fuel mixture. I dont have any performance above 3500 rpm and i have backfire in my intake when the engine is cold. The serial number of my maf show me that is one use on corvette 86-87. My computer dont give me any code.
I consider changing my maf for a good one. Do you think this will resolve my problem?

thanks,

Although some MAF's intercross many are designed for a specific engine for certian mix levels @ different rpms.I'm suprised the serv. engine light does not come on,as it usually will when electricity/resistance levels are off. If you buy a new one BUY IT NEW FROM THE DEALER..I learned the hard way..then take the screen out of it for more flow.

the problem I had was buying one from napa. It worked for 6 months then I warranteed it . The next one I got lasted a while[by the way these are remanufactured, I guess you could buy it anywhere ..but buy new] I had some extra cash so I bought a new one from the dealer and got a smoother running engine. The gm ac delco parts are made to spec. there spendy .But the only aftermarket good ones I've seen are bosch. bottomline is you get what you pay for...
