Ahh help, no electricity to anything

i was driving down the freeway, and all of a sudden everything went dead, only the headlights and dome llights worked, what can be wrong, nothign goes on with the ignition?

try this

first check the common things since you were driving and it died you want to check the alternator mabey it's not charging. although if your not getting a spark at all it could be the spark modual in you distributor or a coil. if it's none of those well hopefully someone has some better advice.

i have headlights though, and when i turn the key to start the car, i get nothing, no gauges, no radio, nothing?

what codes do you get, i'm sure you did but if not check all of your fuses.

it turned out it wasnt computer related, i had also just put in a new prom chip, it drove for about 20 minutes then all the electricity went out. and i checke all the fuses under the dash

now i'm not to sure how the whole vats thing works but i'm sure you could get that info from one of the guru's on the board if you dont know your self. but if your new prom doesn't have a vats disabled that may be your prob.

Could also be a wiring harness problem. Check the harness coming from the starter. There is a splice located about 2ft from the starter where one of the thick red or purple wires is spliced into two. Each side goes to a different half of the wiring harness. That splice can break over time (happened to me).

They only reason I found it was I started tracing the power from the starter back into the harness, and unwrapped the wires from the loom.
