Funny idle.. water related? distributer seems fine... fuel delivery?

I just washed my car last thursday and when I got home and turned the ignition off, the engine dieseled for a bit then finally quit and there was a hiss like steam evaporating. Ever since, the car diesels after about 30 min of driving and the idle goes from 800 to 1100 RPM there are rough spots at 1000 and 3000 RPM... I have no idea what is wrong... it used to idle nice and smooth at 700 RPM. My question(s): Is this fuel delivery related? ignition related? or something else? I took apart the distributer and there was no water in it. There is no conductive gel on the contacts, but I wouldn't expect this to be the result...

Thanks in advance
