Hatch Motor replaced CHEAP - GM

I just wanted to share some recent experience. I've been looking for a working hatch pull-down motor and a new glove box cover for my 1989 Camaro for awhile now. After bidding and loosing on eBay, I started researching. The local dealer wanted over $400 for the motor, and $80 for a new glove box cover. Wreck yards wanted $100 for the motor...and buying one off of eBay was a potential dead-end. Then by chance I stumbled on to gmpartsdirect.com. If you have the part number you need, go there and get a really good price on new GM parts. You know that silly plastic motor housing that breaks on the hatch pull-down? $15.90 for that part....or the whole assembly for $46.

You'll need the part number, or you'll have to call a dealer or email gmpartsdirect and request the number as they do not have an online catalog....but the money you may save is worth the extra effort.

Just in case you need it...
16608837 - Pull down assembly
14035760 - Black Console cover and hinge
20160581 - Motor housing

Hope someone finds this info useful...

Hey Shelley,, that's a sweet deal. I've known about GMPartsDirect for awhile now but thier old site never worked to take internet orders.

Let me add to you finding & say that the entire headlamp motor assembly is available through them for $110

p/n's follow,,
16507923 for LH
16507924 for RH

GM list as $220, wholesale (or collision price) is $154

Anybody know if the 89 uses the same hatch motor as the 88? I know my 86 uses the same motor, but I've also seen a different style on newer ones and I don't know what year the change was made.

I managed to go through 2 motors on my 88 GTA before it even left the body shop!!!!
